Pretty sure that's exactly what they've done and it certainly isn't uncommon. Coverage for small companies in hard to get and often it's along the lines of "well we will write a research report on you if we do a placement for you" or something like that.
But it is interesting that they have gone down this path with an international research house. They are up to something, that's for sure.
