Bigger report in "The Age" apparently the Americans talked the Iraqui airforce into staying out of the war. Also the runways were damaged.
The Mig25 is an out and out interceptor, similar in style to The English Electric Lightning fighter of the sixties. Both are fearsomely fast with negligible range.
The Mig25 has radar that uses valves rather than transistors. The US thought this was a great joke until they realised that their radar jamming devices did not work against it.
Clearly the migs would have been overwhelmed by sheer weight of numbers and US air to air missiles but the B52's would have been sitting ducks.
Exellent work by the US in talking the Iraqui airforce into using common sense.
