London black taxis to go electric as Chinese firm invests £250 million into 'next generation' of iconic taxi



London's roads will soon carry a new fleet of electric-powered black taxis with ultra low emissions, after a Chinese motoring giant invested £250 million into a new manufacturing plant.
The new breed of London's iconic black taxis will be more environmentally friendly due to their hybrid electric and petrol-powered engines.
Boris Johnson said the cars would "ensure" Londoners have "the cleanest possible air to breathe".
They will come off the production line at a state-of the-art assembly facility in Coventry, to be built by the London Taxi Company's Chinese owner Geely.
