Hi P$Ychic,
The son of the father you refer to in this story didn't die from the drug ICE. He died from a drug called 25i-MBOMe. One of the many dangerous new synthetic drugs currently being manufactured in China as an unfortunate, but direct consequence of drug prohibition. Dare I say it, but if that mans son had actually used methylamphetamine instead of the more easily masked and transportable but extraordinarily powerful and much more dangerous form of Lysergic acid diethylamide - he would still be alive today.
Fyi, drug sniffer dogs used by the police can be trained to find just about anything - and many of them are most certainly trained to sniff out crystal methamphetamine (with a success rate that is arguably not that great with most illicit drugs excluding marijuana). However, beagles which are more often used by boarder control agencies are incredibly more skillful at tracking illicit drugs (synthetic or otherwise) than the traditional breed used by police authorities.
As a nation we can keep pretending that the war on drugs over the past 4 decades hasn't been a significant contributor to street crime, higher rates of incarceration, more organized crime gangs, more money laundering, more corruption, more violence, and a significant burden to the economy to fund law enforcement, but let's face it, if the real objective was to cause catastrophic problems for an enormous number of Australian families leading to more suffering and deaths among our young while enriching the criminal drug cartels, then as a society we can all pat ourselves on the back. What a great achievement - let's see if we can take the trophy from America over the next couple of decades.
As for anything in life, we humans are supposed to learn from our mistakes, so how much longer is it going to take us to learn from this one?
