With respect I think that statement is rubbish. In fact he probably got the boot because he held onto his conservative base at the expense of pandering to 'progressives' that were pushing homosexual marriage and 'climate change' and all those other loopy clap trap fringe irrelevant ideas.
I agree completely with your comment that Mal is in the wrong party - he's clearly a hard core socialist much better suited within the ex union hacks.
