Comparing Lihir with Bougainville is a little inappropriate I should think. I traded Lihir about 40 times for a pretty decent return. So made it my business to understand the project well. Bougainville I'm sure you know was a total disaster, no matter how you looked at it.
The people of Lihir are in no way similar to those on Bouganville. This is not the forum for it. But put briefly the project has been poorly managed from the outset and it faces extraordinary engineering hurdles, that no other project of it's scale faces anywhere else in the world. On top of an active volcanic province for starters.
In any case I hope WPL back out of this one, anyway they can. PNG - the best politicians money can buy.
