I do get that about Aldi private labels are inferior quality but most average shopper hit by economic downturn don't see it that way. I live in Point Cook, Victoria(sort of lowwe/middle class area) and we have 3 of them together. Woolies holding 3 sites in the suburb. Coles has one large shop. Aldi the usual small ones.
Coles is still raking it in as one of the managers said their sales are not even affected by the opening of Woolworths a few months ago. Though they have done some promotion like Choir singing to drum up customer intrigue and shove in some messages not to shop across the road at Aldis. (Meaning they do see Aldi as a threat).

Apart from that my observation is that Coles still commands a large number of shoppers due to the better layout and bigger frontage and inviting bright frontage. Woolworths is beggining to see some asian customers seeing some value in some of their lines but I suppose its only the lines that are on special which could see these shoppers shop around between both Coles and Woolies. By the way, Woolworths has 3 supermarkets within the vincinity. One in featherbrook doing not so good. One in 'Williams Landing which is ok so it seems they are trying to cover more ground than Coles while Coles is focusing on one big store but making it work better.

Getting rid of masters and selling the sites for a good price may help the WOW SP which I've got hit by about 25K. So too much ground to make up. Though WOW shares past 2 weeks seems very stable. Complentating when to free up some cash to jump in.
