Unfortunately in this country we're bleeding a billion a month. There just aren't enough rich people around to prevent the graph going hyperbole . It's a concept that can't be explained to cross benchers ,let alone the public ,anyone who tries to tackle the issue intelligently gets gang tackled from all sides. Sadly Hockey lacked the political skills to get the message across. Someone like a Keating would've had a good crack but history will show that Keating is best remembered, deridedly, for saying this country was going down the gurgler . He would've been crucified as well.

Everyone's had it too good here for a long time ,living off the benefits of what we have in the ground ,but that era drew to a close 3 years ago . Of course no one wants to give up what they've been given at the height of the largesse.

I think Hockey realised that Governments in countries like ours are between a rock and a hard place . The key to future prosperity is to get everyone off the government teat ,but the only future revenue measures currently available are within the pursestrings of those who are fending for themselves and aren't on the Government payroll. Similarly we have exhorbitantly generous superannuation benefits to politicians ,public servants ,teachers and the rest who keep sucking money out of the system for the term of their natural lives ,but have never actually put anything in that hasn't come from other taxpayers in the first place. In other words, non productive money.

And now we've got train drivers ,many of whom are out on stress ,earning 150k a year.

This country is pretty much cactus financially ,it's no wonder our better business ideas have been heading offshore for quite some time
