I think you're vision (with respect) is a bit blinkered..... This isn't just about lights.

Now in it's basic sense none of this is revolutionary but what IS is the intergration of it. I don't want separate controllers or apps to do things, I want to do it on one device, and ideally that'd be my phone, thus we need an interface that is not only available across multiple devices (ie NFC) but also something that learns.

As i'm driving home, on goes the a/c in summer or the heater in winter. I can turn the oven on and get some outside lights on so I don't trip over (maybe you can set up a macro that might do all these things under a "coming home" mode). When i'm sitting infront of the box I can not only control my TV but also the curtains, the a/c and lighting. And when I leave for work I can not only turn off the lights I've forgotten but actually monitor their status, all from the same device using the same software.

Now imagine this tech if you were disabled, or bed bound, for instance. I really like this.
