Above ground stocks dwarf mine production, availability of the 99% changes depending on price and the market at the time, i don't see how a few high cost mines or more closing puts a floor under the price, hedging or not. I think this thought process is just copied lazily from base metal analysis as the gold supply and demand is more complex.
