Even if you have insurance against natural disasters, if negligence in design and/or maintenance was ultimately responsible they will deny cover.
The unknown cost for BHP is the cost of reviewing all iron ore tailings dam designs globally and what modifications are required. Will this force multiple long duration shutdowns of various operations? Who knows?
Lots of uncertainty with BHP right now. Till we know more best to avoid till price is ridiculously cheap - my range is $15-18 by end of the month.
