Some good questions there Dex .

Responsibility - the vehicles owner . As cars will have all sorts of camera's , blackboxes and other recording devices , at least the cause of the accident should be pretty clear .

Impairment - assuming that these cars can be fully autonomous ( big ask ) , then being 3 sheets to the wind shouldn't matter . Think of it like getting a taxi home after a big night . You are trusting the taxi driver to get you home safely . The autonomous car is simply replacing the taxi driver .

Speed limits - yeah , that will be controlled . Maybe these cars will be able to travel faster in certain situations ( freeways ) because they will be communicating with each other and the road . I reckon the merging issue on freeways will be largely solved ( we do it so badly at the moment ) . These cars will help eliminate freeways slowing to a crawl because one driver had tapped his brakes . There could be serious benefits there . Even parking might be better as your car can drop you off and go find a parking spot quite a distance away . When you want your car , you just summon it and it comes back .

Jobs will go unfortunately . But just as in the past , new opportunities will be found . One benefit I see is that people will be able to move away from shift work . Taxi drivers , delivery drivers etc won't have to work rubbish hours anymore . Also , because driver schedules won't have to revolve around human restrictions , there should be some efficiency gains . Try getting a taxi on a Saturday night now . Autonomous vehicles should sort that out .

Greenies - I think that driverless vehicles will add to the efficiency of transport so that should keep the greenies happy .
