    As far as I am aware there are no "Amelekites" around today and so this apparent recounting of the planning for some historical battle recounted in the Old Testament would generally not taken to be an instruction that you would follow to the letter today, unless you are somewhat insane...

    Certainly much of the history of humanity has been blood soaked with battles for survival and there would have been a time when the various stories of the Old Testament would have been highly relevant examples to follow for the continuing survival of your community...

    However since The Bible is not the word of God, it can be reformulated and re-interpreted according to the changing times which is what happens in practice, sometimes not always for the better...

    It would seem that there is a New Testament for a reason and that reason probably has to do with relevance and the flexibility of the Christian religion to adapt to the times as they change...

    That is not the case for the koran which is claimed to be the direct word of their god, with the savage and barbarous actions of their prophet mohamed to be taken as a role model for perfect living...
