Someone at retirement age will need a consistency of income and to know what they're getting and when. Theywill devote a smaller % of their capital to the higher risk but much higher reward play.

If you're talking the way you are you're either 1. Under 30 or

    2. Not including your primary residence as part of your asset allocation.

If you have a house, work out the equity in it add your superannuation add your shares and your cash together. The % of that allocation that is alexium is the % to which you're invested.

I'm approximately 60% Of everything in AJX, so as you can see your post is actually quite silly in being addressed to me.

Why am I in AJX so hard? Because the RISKvsreward proposition is amazing, best on the ASX. It has much more time to be trading at 10% of its current value than an ETF tracking the ASX 100. But it probably has as much chance to go up 1000% as the asx100 has to go up 100%.

As a 30 year old with a stable career and no mortgage, I can absorb the risk of 60% of my worth becoming 6% (as the majority of money I will earn is in the future, not the past). I take that risk because the odds are heavily inflated in my favour so I'm much more likely to have that 60% become 300-600%.

If I'm 70, I'm not putting in more than 5-10% of my net worth into alexium. I would have money in an Asx ETF US ETF euro ETF REIT, investment property etc. etc... Mitigated risk with a much steadier return because I wouldn't be able to absorb severe losses at 70.
