Only by cherry picking and ignoring what does not suit your position....the Church did its best to suppress new ideas to the point of torturing and killing those who dared question the teachings of Church dogma.

The principle of gathering information from the natural world, testing and applying acquired knowledge pre-dates organised religion even though some religions have supported science and even encouraged learning. Islam had a better record for supporting science during the rule of the Roman Catholic Church in the dark ages, for example.

My point being; the scientific method does not belong to any religion, ideology or philosophy.

It is simply a systematic method of gathering, testing and applying information.

The ancient Greeks were far ahead in terms of philosophy, science learning than Europe under the Catholic church, for instance.

more people learnt to read and write "because" of religion,

if it wasn't for religion, we would still be in the horse and carriage stage of mankind's development
