I did actually say "He did achieve on a few things he set out on" . He did very well on his stop the boats policy that he set (IMO it was too heavy handed), trade agreements (which I liked), and some tax policies, but unfortunately his failures outweighed his successes. Since his ousting he has become more and more extreme in his opinions which really does not bode well for him.
I don't think anyone is saying that he didn't try to do what he thought was best for the country, but unfortunately for him and his government at the time, much was out of step with what people had voted him in to achieve. Sure, no one can say that Malcolm will do any better. Personally, I rather a PM see out their full-term even if I don't agree with them.
Much of the problem admittedly is with the current 24 hour news cycle. Anything that any PM post-Howard does is heavily scrutinised on basically non-issues, and Abbott was often a victim of this no question. I don't think anyone who is reasonable would at all deny that. However, our previous three Prime Ministers (and our current) were/are obsessed with meaningless rhetoric and catch phrases. We have Kevin Rudd to thank for this problem with his "Kevin 07" campaign. Since then, it has become unbearable.
I will say this. Tony Abbott in reality should have been allowed to see out his term and this is coming from someone who absolutely has not been a supporter of his. Two years is extremely difficult to achieve the policies set out and it's become a massive problem in politics in this country. I think that the three year term is too short and it should be extended to four years as this way it gives sufficient time for policies to be achieved (assuming they're not hit by a rogue trying to level up beforehand).

Would you care to weigh up the years of failures and successes of the RuddGillard governments? The failures were continuous and I don't recall them doing one thing right.
You would claim they kept us out of the big crash, I don't agree but will cede it rather than get sidetracked. What else for six years?
