"A neat sidestep there. You speak as if Abbott has zero redeeming features, was a total failure, did nothing right, but refuse to rate labor against him."
You need to read them again then. Nowhere have I said or implied that he was a total failure, did nothing or had zero redeeming features. I did say that he's absolutely not comparable to Churchill, on numerous occasions said that he did achieve some of the things he said would on which he should be commended but overall was head of another failed government. There was no absolutes mentioned.
"Everything is relative, you can't rubbish one government without comparing it to the one that created the environment in which it had to operate."
You certainly can if the government in question promised to reduce the deficit which in fact increased significantly. Regardless, I was pretty forceful on "rubbishing" the former ALP government too. So if you are to say that "everything is relative" in relation to the budget, does that mean the ALP government should have been excused for the state of the budget given that it was at the mercy of the GFC which we largely managed to avoid? The answer must be yes if you're at all consistent.
"FWIW Abbott is looking better every day, compared to what was before and what came after, and that is the only comparison I care to make."
Your opinion.
"Looking around I don't see a natural leader in either party."
At least we can agree on that.
