Imagine you are a reasonably senior executive and going to your boss and saying

"hey, you know that copper company in Australia, you know the one that I convinced you was going to be a money making machine, you know the one that I convinced you to approve putting in $40 mill plus, well it is a dud"

Then throw in the Chinese face saving culture and you have an answer why this farce continues. No one wants to face the music, so the charade carries on, with everyone refusing to face reality.
