LTA.......you make a good point....How can it be they are all making losses 10 years later when we have been living in such a low inflation environment ????
Whilst it may be a little off topic.....heres the answer ......(from first hand experience)

Ten years ago we used to get in and get dirty.....and get the job done !!!!
Now .....with all the health and safety regimes in place bought about purely by the insurance companies requirements to try and reduce claims, we have so much bull....t paperwork, protocols trumped up training to deliver meaningless / worthless trumped up supposed qualifications, that cost drilling / oil and basically all companies literally millions and increases the cost of production of almost every item and commodity on earth .
That's why they cant make much out of $35 a barrel........
True story.....30% of my working day is involved in writing forms, applying for permits to work etc and often the paperworks and time spent gaining the approvals takes longer than actually doing the job.
Sad but true .....has our world gone crazy??? ....at times I thinks so
