According to company papers, Angolan kimberlites are well preserved with limited erosion as they were preserved by the Calonda Fm and Kalahari Fm shortly after emplacement. This gives them the "champagne glass" profile. On the other hand, South African kimberlites are usually more eroded and have a carrot shape.

Thanks Ecat. Dazzaa keeps on banging on about "joining the dots": you have just added a whole stack of dots in a line for me. I am getting a very clear picture of what is going on from the Anns and the background info that is provided here. It is shaping up nicely, regardless of some tea leaf readings.
