But isn't that where horizontal drilling comes in? I remember the giant Troll field in the North Sea was first thought to be a gas field only, because the oil was all in thin sands extending over largge areas, similar perhaps to the SNE sands. However, then they discovered horizontal drilling, which was then a brand new technology, and as a result the Troll field also became one of the most prolific oil producers in the region.
