@higo the introduction of high tech methods/aids in farming is purely production based. As in any business reducing cost and expanding production gives us more profit. Milk price generally is controlled buy the dairy factories BEGA FONTERRA WARRNAMBOOL CHEESE ect which is then to a degree controlled by our friends the supermarket chains such as COLES and WOOLIES. I think if you don't sit close to people in the industry you'd be quite surprised at the small return per litre of milk the average diary farmer receives. Back when I was on the land we we're only receiving around 19c a litre when it was over $2 in the supermarket before the big price wars came. The market you refer to is more boutique and I have to say there are farm groups coming together and trying to target this stream currently. I say good on them as they have fought long and hard for better prices and always had it dictated to them, now they have a market on their doorstep that will take as much fresh milk as we can produce. Its gotta be better than selling all the land to them and watching all the profit leave this great country of ours.
