re: slater and gordon ready for class action I believe asic rules are the same as the tax office'
you are liable to comply with the rules
the rules are spelt out in the legislation
its not the asic or ato responsibility to ensure that what you report is correct......................
they assume you comply with the reporting rules!
ie it is your responsibility to report correctly,
it is not their responsibility to see if you did report correctly

it is only when they the ato or asic are alerted to your non compliance with the rules, that they undertake an audit.............................
voila after the audit they determine you were non compliant
