    Thanks @nihilism, I'll take that on board. But I did mean it on a much smaller scale and timeframe than that. More like if the market is down for a couple of weeks, specs often lift for a couple of weeks with high volumes, a couple of runners but not usually simultaneously. To me the pattern seems like bigger money (although not big Big Money) manipulating the specs and then it's gone.

    During that year, what were the daytraders trading higher market cap stocks? And was it much more TA based than today's often mash-up of FA and TA analysis of specs? I'm guessing there would have been a lot less multi-baggers but possibly opportunities to trade higher capital with more liquidity?
