Ice addicts in every regional town, drunk drivers, teenage car thieves killing pregnant women, bikies and drug dealers shooting one another, one punch attacks killing innocent young blokes...Snakes, Sharks, Drowning, Cancer...
I've been through most of Europe, SE Asia, bused my way with a backpack and some common sense through places like Egypt and Jordan, India, China, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Columbia, Peru, Bolivia....all places with many negative, crime related connotations and you know what? I never even had a t-shirt stolen from a laundry service. All of my direct experience with crime has been in Australia.
Point? There are things to be fearful of everywhere. Switch off the 24/7 newsfeed then get out and travel...plenty of great, possibly safer than your own backyard destinations have already been mentioned.
