another side to it may be that the fabrics industry has always had fire retardants if required - Alexium changes the nature of the retardant, but not its existence, whereas resins and plastics has not had so many options to choose from. The nature of fire retardants for these products changes the nature of the product, and makes the properties different than they were without the retardant - at times rendering the product useless for its original purpose. Perhaps this product is different in how it reacts with the material?

Another point regarding plastics and resins is that they are manufactured items; they are produced in processes generally involving heating, and perhaps the product is incorporated at this time, as part of the manufacturing process already in place? Fabric treatment would require an extra step to apply the product (by microwave fixing from memory), and I gather that would occur after a garment is complete - so the stitching etc would be treated? If so, this would mean a process which is new to the manufacturing facilities for clothing and bedding - a different proposition to treatment of a raw product in a factory where it would probably be simple to integrate into the manufacturing process.

As for volume ... when you are talking about construction, you are talking very large volumes of product compared to the use of textiles .... building facades are very large, for instance (it would take a lot of jackets to cover one 30 story building!)

Just another thought - one of the problems with plastics and resins in Australia is the brutal nature of the exposure to UV here ... plastics just don't last. I wonder if the Alexium product line changes that ... or if there is consideration of developing something along those lines? That would be another massive market ...

I believe the plastic granules are infused with Alexium FR. These granules are feed into an injection mould to form the plastic part. No plant modifications need by the end user.
