Their is no chance of Turnbull going with a GST rise. It looks like he is finally coming to his senses. His non position on the GST just shows a complete lack of political Judgement. At least Abbott knew to rule it out immediately.
In not ruleing it out immediately he has cost himself a significant portion of his lead over labor. He has also now given labor a election issue to run on and they will. It wont matter much now that he rules it out. Labor will still run the scare campain adds and they will work on a significant portion of the population.
There is only one reason to raise the GST and that is to fix the Budget Deficit yet on Insiders Turbull outlines two planned uses for the GST tax windfall and in neither option was he going to use any of the funds to reduce the deficit.
