I remember commenting on this scenario some time back...
Why pay for an asset when you can get the entire company...and the asset..and everything else they have, for less than half the price?
You may recall the scenario I painted involved buying a near controlling stake in the company on market, the launching a takeover at an inflated price for the rest of the shares not held.
Guarantees the remaining holders (say 30%) will sell, the average buy price is still cheap...and in the end, the final buy price getsa multiplied over the shares on, which gets booked as the asset value...even though they didn't actually pay that much for it.
Done deal!
