Hanrahan, those in the media are supposed to honour the 'Media Code of Conduct' via self control and self-monitoring. IMO government must never be involved in censorship of the media; as demonstrated by Tony Abbott's ill-conceived political interference in The ABC, one which exploded in his face.

But media people like Andrew Bolt already heavily censor others; via who they select to interview and their blogs [eg. my posts never even found their way onto his website]. Yet they claim to be champions of free speech [lapdog feels physically ill about this gross and mischievous self-serving hypocrisy].

We all know that shock jocks are called that for a very good reason; they frequently offend but are almost never held to account. They dismiss the views of others as they seek to ram their bigotry and prejudice down our throats. IMO their interests are self-serving!

Personally, I never listen to shock jocks or to their media outlets since I don;t need other people to tell me what to think. I only become aware of their outbursts when they make the national news. As long as their comments don't damage vulnerable people I couldn't give two hoots about their self-indulgent crap.

But when their opinionated outbursts damage vulnerable individuals and groups it's my view that their comments MUST be challenged by those in a position to lead the debate.

Yesterday that leadership again fell to The ABC and it's Q&A program. That was after not a single pollie dared challenge Jones's latest foul-mouthed, bigoted and prejudicial outburst.
