Interesting you should say that about metal re-cyclers, Nikec.
We had a council clean-up in our area recently and I was surprised to see that that all the whitegoods were left untouched by the scrap-metal collectors. Normally a fridge or a washing machine is gone within minutes of putting it out on the footpath. This time none were touched and they all ended up as landfill.
We personally put out a washing machine in fairly good nick and after a few days someone turned it upside-down and took only the electric motor.
I thought this was a bit of a sad reflection of the steel price and was also disappointed that easily re-cycled material was going straight to the tip.
