A key difference for those in the teaching profession and other workplaces is the work environment.
Try and imagine rocking up to work everyday knowing that there are several little arseholes and princess bitchfaces in your place of work. And throw in a few adhd, asd or other such disability in the mix as well.
When was the last time that you gave or received an instruction at your workplace and the other worker reacted with non-compliance? Now multiply that several times per lesson, and multiply that for several times a day. Get the picture?
Now impose such an environment in your workplace and I am pretty sure in a few weeks you would be looking for another job. And if you encountered the same situation in your next workplace you would be looking for a new career perhaps. Forgoing 5 years of university training and much more professional training and experience.
In most workplaces during worktime you can have a genial, mature conversation with fellow workers while you work. Try that in a classroom.
I think many people's opinion of teacher is clouded by their own experience as a student. But then we were amongst our peers.
I help out twice a week at my kid's school. And I can tell you that the kids these days are a rabble. I barely last the hour without killing several of the little f***ers.
At the school sport afternoon the teacher was telling me that 15 minutes before the bus left to go to sport he was telephoned by the school admin office that a certain kids parent rang to say she wanted her boy to go to sport. Now this kid has been suspended tens of times(only grade 4) did not comply with requirement of attending training the day before (actually turned up said this was f***ing boring, swore some more and walked off). Teacher HAS to take kid even after explaining that the kid did not qualify to attend by school's own stated policy of good behaviour requirements. When they get there kid is a general pain in the butt and stands in the middle of the field and swears at the other kids. Teacher even gets told off by other school principal. But is powerless.
Now try and interchange such a situation within your own workplace and see how enjoyable and rewarding you find your chosen career.
