The first test at Mputa was as follows (as forshadowed on 10 July):
"The rig and testing equipment will now be relocated to the Mputa-1 location for flow testing of similar oil bearing intervals to those tested at Waraga. In addition a flow test will be attempted from fractured basement lithologies where hydrocarbons were encountered during the drilling of the Mputa well – an additional play type to those already tested at Waraga".
So no real surprise that this speculative play was unsuccessful (yes I would prefer it wasn't).
Next they are testing the two primary sections. There were only 2 at Mputa ... see extracts from the Mputa-1 reports below:
"January 17: Since the last report on 10 January the rig completed repairs and drilled the well to total depth of
1,186 metres. The well encountered oil shows over two intervals within a deep objective and as
of midnight on 16 January oil samples have been recovered from the upper interval, a sand of
approximately 10 metres gross thickness at 965 metres.
"January 20: In respect of the previously reported sand interval at 965 to 975 metres, black, waxy oil samples have been recovered. Whilst drilling, increased gas readings and oil shows were seen over a gross interval
from 965 metres to a total depth of 1,186 metres [my interpretation = the second interval], although it was not possible to test these deeper intervals with the current wireline equipment.
So they seem to be saying the 10m interval from 965-975 is interval 1 and everything else down to 1,186 is interval 2 ... these are what they are now testing.
Or have I got it totally wrong? Were these the reports that c onfused us the back then as well??
