88E I believe are dealing with detrital smectite to be precise.

Smectite being a mixed layer type clay, is high swelling by nature, and has decreasing permeability near wellbore (then a fluid containment issue).

I think (just observation) this is detrital, tells me the rock matrix is tightly packed, which can be both a plus and a minus, depending on how one views it.

This is a better result than if it were Authigenic clay.

When it comes down to porosity, 20+% is the norm in this area, not 7% as DW suggests in previous guidance, the 12% mentioned in previous guidance is on the low end of the norm and may show decreased permeability/ porosity at depth.

So to wrap up, I think the clay type could be an issue here, however being smectite it would have expanded when absorbing the hydrocarbons, and being a tight rock matrix clay, may have held its formation better than maybe predicted, due to location.

So there is a positive form Warnie on this fine Thursday.
