I think lithium batteries will be with us for a while yet, but the next technology in the chain is super-capacitors.
The problem with lithium batteries for vehicles is they cannot be charged quickly enough to fully recover energy harvested during regenerative braking. The ideal scenario is probably a hybrid lithium/supercap battery where the supercap comprises maybe 10-20% of the storage and acts as an "electronic flywheel".
Also, supercaps can be charged/discharged so may times they probably outlast the lifetime of the vehicle, literally potentially up to millions of cycles.
I don't see this impacting galaxy in the next 5 years, but it is a technology worth keeping an eye on.
