P&G Scientists Discuss New Research (Magnetic Wand), page-93

Coming to these conclusions involves determining the :
1) OBJ/Olay device
2) Target molecule(s)
3) targeted world region
4) most likely Olay sub-brand

Then its a matter of checking which existing products fit those conclusions. So here goes (feel free to poke holes if you wish):

OBJ/Olay Device
This is very easy. We have already been told that the SK-II wand was to be launched imminently with another P&G brand which is undoubtedly Olay (since there in no other viable option) :


Knowing that we are launching the Eye Wand with Olay narrows down the products considerably due to these factors :

1) device targets small areas (e.g. eyes, blemishes, deep wrinkles)
2) device uses a specific microarray configuration : bi-directional array 12p6×17p2. This array is targeted at the niacinamide (i'll call it vB3) molecule.

Target Molecule(s)
niacinamide is already identified as the target molecule, but is that all? Consider the new patent application by P&G : Skin Care Product and Method of Use. In it is presented an in vivo trial with 9 different microarrays (including 12p6×17p2) targeting the molecule Pal-KTTKS (aka Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4). The best performing micro-arrays were #9 and #4. These are NOT the same as the vB3 microarray identified above. Nevertheless, the patent application also presents the results of a different study that dealt ONLY with the SAME vB3 microarray (12p6×17p2). Furthermore the study was conducted with the the SK-II Magnetic Wand as evidenced here :




So the exact SK-II Magnetic Wand was tested extensively with Pal-KTTKS and the results were an improvement of more than 6X at deeper skin layers :




So in summary, the SAME SK-II Wand that gives a 3X improvement for vB3 penetration ALSO gives a 4X to 6X improvement for Pal-KTTKS penetration. The facts that :

1) P&G has tested the wand with both molecules AND
2) they have found excellent results for the same wand on both molecules,

tells me that they intend to use the wand with a product that contains BOTH molecules.

Targeted World Region
Olay has some brands that exist only in Asia (e.g. for skin lightening). Are they targeting that market as their first Olay product? I don't think so. From the recently published presentation at the American Academy of Dermatology : https://www.aad.org/eposters/Submissions/getFile.aspx?id=3764&type=sub, it is shown that a recent Olay vB3 wand study was performed on 54 Caucasian women :


If this study was related to SK-II OR Olay Asia, then the participants would have likely been Asian. Since they were Caucasian, I believe the target market is in US/Europe. This means we can focus on Olay brands available there.

Most likely Olay Sub-Brand
Given we know the two targeted molecules, its easy narrow the sub-brand to only 2 :
1) Regenerist
2) ProX

Other sub-brand do occasionally feature these molecules, but the two brands above are almost entirely dependent on them. One of the reasons I lean towards ProX is because of the people involved :


This "alliance of experts" has been assembled specifically to work on/promote the Pro-X line. They are dermatologists and other skin experts from within and outside of P&G. The two highlighted are both P&G scientists. You may recognise their names from the recent American Academy of Dermatology presentation :



And also in the recent patents :


While this does not preclude an association with Regenerist products, it does strongly point towards ProX in my opinion.

Then of course there is the second reason Pro-X is more likely : A proX product was specifically tested and discussed in both the vB3 and Pal-KTTKS patent applications :


AND "Deep Wrinkle Treatment" is a Pro-X product as already mentioned. So while Regenerist is certainly a viable brand option, if I had to choose, the evidence suggests Pro-X.

Summary
So we are looking for :

• ProX products
• contains both vB3 and Pal-KTTKS
• targeted to small areas suitable for wand

The only two products that fit this set of criteria are as described already :
1) Olay ProX Eye Restoration Complex
2) Olay ProX Deep Wrinkle Treatment
