The co sec appointment doesn't matter - anyone of a certain level of experience and ability can do it; it is largely an administrative role - but dealing with the many potential legal issues SGH found itself facing undoubtedly would have called for a great deal of all-round experience and fighting qualities in a single individual. I believe the directors (if they did suggest the job may be beyond her because the going was likely to be too tough for someone with her set of skills) did the right thing in deciding that outside professional experts should be engaged to deal with each different aspect of the challenge they face.

As I have said before, in the above circumstances the directors may have done the decent thing and explained their thoughts to her quite early on, thus giving her a reasonable chance to find herself another position more in keeping with her skills and experience before any announcement was made. The SGH she was recruited to join was very different to the one that existed when she got there.

Ms Weir appears to have secured a position with a real estate company, where her role is described simply as "company secretary". My guess is that the "general counsel" bit was a bit over-hyped, as her previous legal experience does not appear to have been gained at a particularly senior level.

Hope these thoughts help to bring balance.

What??? Nope. You're wrong. Moana Weir was GC of the REA Group long before she joined SGH. She obviously just has not updated her LinkedIn page.

As usual you are far too quick to construct elaborate arguments based on flimsy and ill considered conjecture!
