I believe that the latest announcement will be a game changer for LWP.
Whilst the initial price point difference is somewhat important the ultimate economics is in the flow rates and recovery of either the gas or oil downhole.
Frac sand is just a cheap product that companies have been forced to use in lieu of anything else currently available.
Any engineer worth his salt will know the end game of using a product (frac sands) that becomes mechanical under pressure and actually locks into itself thus restricting flow rates and recovery of any medium, or a product (LWP proppants) that has a uniform roundness with a much higher crush strength that allows excellent flow rates and recovery is the real economic prize.
Imagine having the ability to produce all these grades of proppants to compete with the whole range of products that are in the market currently all in the one complex and made from the same materials.
The current producers , both frac sand and proppant will certainly be taking note of what LWP have to offer!!
If someone could post a chart on Frac sand crush test it will demonstrate how much more superior using these proppants would be just based on the percentage of fines produced.
