I couldn't access the linked article because I am not a subscriber, but the clear implication in The Australian as I understood the position was that the appointment had been a very recent one. The context of this was presented negatively by the Australian, whose role in how this has all played out I hope will become the subject of a detailed ASX investigation.
Subsequent digging by some without an agenda appeared to confirm that Grant Samuel had been appointed shortly after Bryce Houghton's appointment last October/November, not very recently, as implied The Australian. Maybe 'consulted' would have been a better word to use because, according to a report posted by someone who appeared to be genuinely reporting a telephone conversation he'd had with a Grant Samuel spokesman, Grant Samuel's actual role was very much downplayed by the GS spokesman, who appeared to find the whole situation amusing.
If the publication of this "news" as to its timing and content, together with its clear intent to mislead, was not intended to be damaging, then how would you describe it, Alex?
