    Armchair analysts the lot of you....

    My view, and the view of others, is that the Horn of Africa region, both onshore and offshore represents one of the last major unexplored and untapped oil reserves globally.

    Who dares wins....

    Thomas O’Connor is petroleum-management adviser in the private sector, works extensively with the World Bank and International Finance Corporation’s ongoing petroleum projects. He was a geologist for Amoco, initially in the Denver office, and did hard-mineral prospecting in Alaska, followed by 12 years of foreign duty in the Netherlands, U.K., and Egypt. In Cairo, O’Connor was chief geologist of GUPCO, the Amoco/EGPC joint company. He later worked in Houston as Amoco’s Africa/Middle East geological manager. In 1980, he was appointed vice president, international, for Aminoil, a large U.S. independent oil company. O’Connor joined the World Bank in 1984 as a principal petroleum engineer and retired in 1999. He has a B.Sc. in geology from Stanford University and an M.Sc. in geology from the University of Colorado.
