Doc Brad, I think some of you guys are being way too harsh on the British lawyer. It's not his fault that these values were drummed into his head every day of his life in a class ordered society which was rife with such values. No career in fact is more steeped in these values than the field of law, even here in Australia! I feel more empathy in a way that so many people are still shackled by these dated values and rejoice in the fact that here in Auistralia we were less shackled by such conventions and were able to grow up with freer mind and spirit.

Don't fool yourselves. Here in Australia I went into a hotel for the first time, wearing (amongst other things) a denim jacket. Although I was first in the cue I had to wait until other 'better' dressed individuals were served until I was served. The next time I went there I happened to be wearing more formal clothes with a nice black suit jacket and tie. I was about 5 deep back waiting my turn. Guess what? I was served immediately, before all of the customers in front of me. I learned a valuable lesson that day. Like it or not, first impressions are extremely real and powerful even here in Oz........ Sometimes our first chance/impression is our only one!
