Because of his pre-eminent position with God he is the only one that can be referred to as THE Son of God.

So you acknowledge that Jesus is THE Son of God. Progress indeed. Now do you acknowledge that as THE Son he inherited the attributes of God and is thus divine?
This is not a question related to making Jesus God - that's not the point. God/Jehovah/Yahweh and Jesus himself acknowledged that Jesus is the Son of God, but not some archangel let alone The Archangel.

The word “beginning” in John 1:1 cannot refer to the “beginning” of God the Creator, for he is eternal, having no beginning. (Psalm 90:2) It must therefore refer to the beginning of creation, when the Word was brought forth by God as his firstborn Son. - Colossians 1:15.

    Not according to this
John 1:1 New International Version (NIV)
    The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word (Jesus) was with God in the beginning... pretty clear that Jesus was present in the beginning.
It is also pretty clear that Jesus (the Word) inherited God's attributes (the Word was God).
