everyone uses different software even amongst the most gifted traders it varies, some just use their online brokers software, I use eSIGNAL (for ASX/NASDAQ/NYSE) but I'm not sure i'd recommend it until you are at least profitable as it's not cheap(over $1700 for yearly sub, more if you want all the bells and whistles, and even more if you pay monthly rather than yearly). iRESS and Turbo trader are also pretty commonly used, amongst others.

If you're new and dont want too many overheads you might be best just sticking to a basic charting package through your online broker.
