Bowral, the word beginning is used throughout the Scriptures and needs to be understood by the context or by a comparable Scripture.
Jesus himself states that he is “the beginning of the creation by God.”—Re 3:14. Neither this Scripture nor Colossians 1:15 makes reference to the new creation.
This was at a time earlier than the physical creation spoken of at Genesis 1:1 as shown by these comparable Scriptures.
(Job 38:4) Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me, if you think you understand.
(Job 38:7) When the morning stars joyfully cried out together, And all the sons of God began shouting in applause?
These "sons of God" were angel sons in existence prior to the earth.
The term “beginning” is used in various other texts similarly to describe the start of some period or career or course, such as the “beginning” of the Christian career of those to whom John wrote his first letter (1 John 2:7; 3:11), the “beginning” of Satan’s rebellious course (1 John 3:8), or the “beginning” of Judas’ deflection from righteousness. (John 6:64)
