There are times when I can see the road ahead and often in a virtually controlled company like SOL they dont highlight it.
I think , also info from a banker , that they should have sold there were offers (NHC) around $4.00 - problem was that was around 12% below the share price...
I am ambivalent about the company but I am positive about the new CEO. I am of the opinion that QLD have really made a mess of industry and in that you have to add NHC and the delays in getting approval for phase 3 to the list. I am not sure adding more coal to the mix with using the cash and taking out RIO in a coal asset in NSW was a great idea but in reality they have run a very tight ship and can probably help there. Not sure if it was just to protect their customer base overseas as they still look like the New Akland extension is not going to happen smoothly.
For the past 5 years the growth in value of TPG has helped them.
The real issue surrounding Carnegie and the great ideas was that the ATO were never going to agree and that CGT would have been huge. They just wanted the cherry picking process to benefit them. Personally I dont really like either of the parties and really think merchant bankers sell the hope before the reality has set in. In the end it just cost shareholders money and I think we lost focus as well.
I have sold at times and bought back lower so my returns here have been okay but really its not one of the star performers and I could probably have done a lot better in 10 other stocks...
Its not huge for me but I suppose I am hopeful that they find some diamonds again but currently they are eating up capital on their past and not delivering much sparkle right now.
