Maybe some suffered murder but not most.
And to clarify the analogy you made on the Holocaust and the Oz treatment of the blacks .....there is a world of difference.
To try and be a rivisionist of European history vis-a-vis the Holocaust is almost always driven by an anti-semitic view and an attempt to refute the notion...the very idea that a state had a genocidal priority in its actions.
No one I hope sees the acts of the early Aussies in that light - not at all.
Once this dichotomy is understood then indeed - the number-crunching which appears to be going on is needed.
To be in the position to claim all sorts of moral high ground, compensation and a demand for a collective national apology NEEDS to be based at least in part, on a substantial # of deaths.
So it is important to quantify.
To seek the facts in Oz's case is to get to the truth. To deny and revise the Holocaust is to deny the truth.
