    LinQ doubles and more

Fresh from announcing a 230 per cent rise in annual profit to $37.3 million, LinQ Resources Fund managing director Clive Donner shared some of his top picks among the smaller resources stocks with Xchange.
He named China Goldmines as a good "sleeper" and also likes Independence Group, Wedgetail Exploration, Elkedra Diamonds and CopperCo.

"We're not a fund that trades a lot," he said. "We generally buy positions and hold those positions." LinQ aims to have a stake of at least 3 per cent in a company but doesn't try to get board seats unless something is seriously wrong with the explorer's management.

LinQ avoids "speculative exploration stocks" like CuDeco but does think copper explorers in the Mt Isa-Cloncurry region are worth a look.

"CopperCo is in that region and hasn't received any interest in speculative market sentiment; it is a proper stock with good fundamentals and good management," Donner said.

As a trust, LinQ is required to pay out 100 per cent of realised profits; based on its June 30 share price, the stock had a 9 per cent yield, unfranked. "I think it's a vindication of our strategy," Donner said
