GZ, thanks for posting that, good food for thought. By virtue of the media, and some of our so-called leaders in the west, we are generally only told of the negative side, and the actions of a few, that do not reflect the norm, not only in Iran, but in most places that we generally do not understand. Instead of focusing on the similarities, they prefer to highlight the differences irrespective of how few or how insignificant they may be. Having lived in such a place, misunderstood by many, you come to realise that in many ways our own society is more the one that has a limited and biased outlook than those we accuse of such things. One of the tributes paid to Don Chipp last week was that he looked for the innate good in people, on this point alone it made him different to most of our political leaders, no wonder he wanted to go down his own path.
