Why should the unemployed work for a bludging "farmer"?
If this guy alleges to be a farmer, then why can't he do some actual farming?

Maybe this guy who reckons he's a farmer is really just a manager, a parasite, who requires actual workers to come and work on his behalf, for his benefit.
I'm sure if you gave the unemployed the chance to actually keep what they produce on the land, they might feel differently about it. The alleged farmer is superfluous, we can dispense with him, we don't need him on the land except that he might make good fertiliser.
