More than a million Melburnians will get access to world-class wireless internet with the launch today of Unwired Australia's wireless broadband network, covering 35 per cent of Melbourne homes*.
Unwired's Melbourne network now stretches from Essendon in the west to Burwood in the east, and Greensborough in the North to Braeside in the South.
Unwired offers a low cost, high speed wireless broadband service which eliminates the need to connect to the internet with a phone line or cable. Combined with Unwired's existing Sydney network, more than 5 million, or 25 per cent of the Australian population, can now get Unwired.
"The time is right for wireless broadband and with Unwired, Melburnians can finally get access to standards-based, portable high-speed wireless broadband - and at a great price. We look forward to building a substantial customer base as soon as possible so we can increase our coverage across most of Melbourne," said Unwired CEO, David Spence.
Unwired involves no installation waiting time, is easy to set up, low cost and because it is portable, customers can access the internet across any part of Unwired's Melbourne and Sydney networks. Customers simply purchase a modem or card, plug it into their computer, select and pay for a plan and they are connected to the internet.
Unwired's Wireless Desktop Modem costs $189 and plans start from as low as $15.95 a month for fast internet plans or $29.95 for broadband plans. The Unwired Wireless Card costs $249 and plans start at $34.95 a month.
Unwired's Wireless Desktop and Card Modems are available direct from Unwired, or from select Dick Smith Electronics, Tandy, Harvey Norman, and Dick Smith Powerhouse stores.
