Both physically and metaphorically, the civilians carried their Emperor on their shoulders. To suggest that the population were ALL innocent bystanders is absurd. The COUNTRY went to war.

Was it only the Nazis in uniform who waged war against Europe? Of course not. Are you so confident that you can separate Nazis from Germans? Isn't it reasonable for Brits not to care when their cities, London and Coventry are being bombed every night?

War is HELL. Commit to war at your peril.
